Today we commemorate the 56th anniversary of Australia’s first heart transplant, performed by Dr Harry Windsor (one of Dr Chang’s mentors) and his team. While the operation was technically a success, the patient passed away due to an infection a few weeks later.

16 years later (in 1984), Dr Chang assisted in establishing Australia’s first official heart transplant unit at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, and performed several successful heart transplant operations, including Fiona Coote.
